The visual book "RENDEZ-VOUS Watase Seizo x Matsuo Hiromi" (Genkosha), a collaboration between manga artist Watase Seizo and popular illustrator Matsuo Hiromi, known for his retro-modern world, was released on February 4th.
Matsuo is an avowed fan of Watase's, and says he was particularly influenced by one of Watase's representative works, "Na." Watase himself was impressed by Matsuo's work, which has a retro, beautiful worldview based on Japanese culture, and his sense of color. Matsuo contributed to "Chalk-Colored People Complete Edition," a reprint of Watase's work from the 1980s, and this dream collaboration became a reality.
In addition to the manga, for which Watase drew the storyboards and Matsuo did the illustrations, the book also features a conversation between the two and some of their precious early works. The cover is also a collaboration between the two, with the front and back facing each other.
