The January 31st episode of the show "Junnin Jyuusho ~As Many Family Forms as There Are Houses~" (MBS, Saturday 5pm, Kansai local and other channels), hosted by talent Mika Mifune and actor Taro Suruga, will feature a 33m² house in Abeno Ward, Osaka City, that overcomes its small size by being "see-through."
The residents are a husband from the local area and his wife from Miyagi Prefecture. The exterior of the house, which is located adjacent to a shopping street, is full of windows, with a total of 19 of them. To overcome the house's small size of just 10 tsubo (approx. 33 sq m), the keyword was "see-through," and the entire wall facing the road was made of glass windows, and the staircase dividers were also made of acrylic instead of solid walls. In order to minimize the presence of objects, even the chairs were made transparent, making full use of techniques to make the house look spacious.
The main space is on the second floor. The living room is bright and filled with light from the many windows. The 6-tatami mat kitchen can be easily expanded by simply pulling out the movable counter. The third floor is the husband's room and a balcony from which the glittering Abeno Harukas can be seen at night.
After living in the house, the wife said, "No matter where you sit, you have a great view and it feels great. At first I thought it was only 33 sq. meters, but now it feels like it's 33 sq. meters, so my impression has changed a lot." The husband, on the other hand, was also pleased, saying, "Now that we're living here as a family of two, it's a manageable size, and everyone is within sight, so I think it's very easy to use."
"Jyunin Jyuiro" is a program that visits homes all over Japan and introduces the residents' preferences and charms for their homes. After broadcast, it will be available on TVer for one week.
