It was revealed on January 27th that a brand new film based on Yokomizo Seishi's masterpiece mystery novel, "The Village of Eight Graves," will be released this fall. It will be distributed by Shochiku and Sony Pictures Entertainment. A super teaser visual was also released on the same day.
The original novel (Kadokawa Bunko) was published in 1949 and is a popular work that has been adapted into numerous films and TV dramas. Inspired by a real-life serial murder case, it is a first-class mystery that adds elements of limestone caves, customs, and curses. A film directed by Kon Ichikawa was released in 1996. The film stars Etsushi Toyokawa as the famous detective Kosuke Kindaichi, as well as Yuko Asano, Kazuya Takahashi, Mai Kitajima, Hisako Manda, Shin Takuma, Ittoku Kishibe, Kyoko Kishida, and Takeshi Kato.
The teaser visual for the new film features eight gravestones standing out in the distance, with the character for "grave" prominently displayed, creating an impactful design. The cast and director will be announced in the future.
