It has been announced that the TV anime "Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You," based on Jinushi's manga currently being serialized in the manga magazine "Big Gangan" (Square Enix), will be broadcast nationwide on 28 TBS affiliates every Thursday at 11:56 pm starting in July. Asahi Productions will produce the anime.
A visual has been released depicting Sasaki and Tayama sitting with cigarettes in hand in the smoking area behind a supermarket. A teaser PV has also been released on YouTube, depicting a scene in which Sasaki, unable to find a place to smoke and letting out a deep sigh, is approached by a mysterious woman named Tayama and guided to the smoking area behind the supermarket. The video hints at the beginning of a relationship between the two.
The series began serialization on Jinushi's Twitter account (now X) in March 2022, with the first chapter receiving a total of approximately 280,000 likes. It was also ranked first in the web manga category at the 2022 Next Manga Awards, and has sold over 2.5 million copies. The story revolves around a middle-aged man named Sasaki and a woman named Tayama, who wears a slightly eccentric outfit and whom Sasaki meets at his favorite supermarket. The two then engage in a casual conversation in the smoking area behind the supermarket.
In the anime, Takuya Sato will play Sasaki, and Narumi Hoshi will play Yamada/Tayama.
