"Platinum Family: A Peek at the Magnificent Family" (TV Asahi, Tuesdays at 7 PM) is a program showcasing the lifestyle of a "magnificent family." The December Getsuku special will be a two-hour special that will follow the family of kabuki actor Shido Nakamura. In addition to introducing the family's home, the program will also follow the entire process of the two sons, 7-year-old Haruki and 5-year-old Natsuki, as they perform their first stage performance "without their father," from rehearsals to the tense performance itself.
Model Mori Izumi visited Shido's family home. The mansion, located in Tokyo, has three floors above ground and one below ground, and is surrounded by exposed concrete walls from the entrance, creating a sense of grandeur. In the open-ceiling living and dining room, Shido's sense of style shines through everywhere, with an extra-large lantern-shaped lampshade custom-made by a craftsman who makes lanterns for the Minamiza Theater in Kyoto, and fox masks painted by his friends, actors Shun Oguri and Masaki Suda.
The basement was a "hobby room" with a counter like a members-only bar, a wine cellar, and a closet displayed like an apparel shop. Studio MCs Kotaro Koizumi and Takashima Chisako were amazed at the space filled with Shido's attention to detail, exclaiming, "It's so stylish!"
His wife, Saori, also appears. In the kitchen, Saori skillfully prepares "matsutake rice," while Shido shows off his cooking skills by making his specialty, "mapo tofu." The program also includes a heartwarming scene of Shido, a pro wrestling fan, playing pretend wrestling with his sons, who have taken up the love of pro wrestling thanks to Shido's influence.
However, in the rehearsal hall, he hides his gentle fatherly face and takes on the expression of a stern teacher. Born into the prestigious Kabuki family, Yorozuya, Shido took the name Nakamura Shido II at the age of eight and was hailed as a "revolutionary in the Kabuki world." Now that he is a father, he serves as a guide for his beloved sons as they embark on the path to becoming Kabuki actors, pushing them with all his heart and soul.
And then, Yoki and Natsumiki face their biggest challenge yet. In the absence of Shido, the two brothers will perform at the Kabukiza for the first time in "Yoshitsune Senbonzakura," one of the three great Kabuki masterpieces. Yoki is tasked with a role that requires him to remain in seiza position without moving for approximately 16 minutes at the climax, a demanding task even for adults. Meanwhile, Natsumiki faces the high hurdle of precise positioning and delivery of his lines.
Shido delivered a merciless speech, saying, "On stage, you have to give it everything you've got. I don't want you to go on stage half-heartedly in front of the audience who have bought tickets to come and see you."
