It has been announced that the total number of copies of the popular manga "Tasogare Ryuuseigun" by Kenshi Hirokane, which has also been adapted into a TV drama, has surpassed 25 million. The comics began their four-month consecutive release run on November 28th, and have now surpassed 25 million copies in total. The series began serialization in "Big Comic Original" (Shogakukan) in 1995, and this year marks its 30th anniversary.
It was also announced that a project to commemorate the 30th anniversary will be implemented. A promotional video with the theme "Tasogare is still active" was released, and the official X account (@t_a_s_o_g_a_r_e) has started a project to post "30 characters unique to 'Tasogare Ryuuseigun'" every day at 5pm. The first episode of the episode featuring the posted characters can be read for free on the online manga site Bikcomi.
A huge preview booklet containing the first episode of the series will be available exclusively at 27 bookstores. The booklet is 72.8 cm tall and 51.5 cm wide, making it "easy to read even for those with presbyopia."
The project will also feature a call for original stories for the first time. People will be asked to submit stories they have experienced or invented, and one story chosen by Hirokane will be made into a manga. Submissions will be accepted on the application page until January 10, 2026.
"Tasogare Ryuuseigun" is an anthology manga about adult love written by Hirokane, the author of the "Shima Kosaku" series and "Ningen Kousaten." It has been adapted into a TV drama many times, and won the Excellence Award in the Manga Division of the 4th Japan Media Arts Festival held by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2000 and the Grand Prize at the 32nd Japan Cartoonists Association Awards in 2003.
Volume 76 of the manga will be released on November 28th, volume 77 on December 26th, volume 78 on January 30th, 2026, and volume 79 on February 27th, 2026. The obi of volume 76 includes a comment from Utadamaru of the hip-hop group RHYMESTER.
