Actress Riho Yoshioka attended the War God Festival for the Netflix series "Ikusagami" held at Sensoji Temple (Taito Ward, Tokyo) on November 13th. Appearing under the cold sky in a black dress that exposed her left shoulder, Yoshioka greeted with a smile, "Good evening, everyone. It's cold, isn't it?", and shared her thoughts on the series.
Yoshioka, who plays Shino, the wife of the main character, Saga Shujiro (played by Okada Junichi), is the only character among the cast members who attended the event who does not have any action scenes. She said that she saw the battle scenes for the first time in the finished film.
When asked about her favorite scene, Yoshioka began by saying, "I'm glad it's on Netflix." She continued, "I watched it all in one go today, and I was like, 'Does this person die here?' A member of an incredibly stellar cast dies in an instant. I really rewound it so many times that I thought maybe it was something that could only be done with a huge budget and the ability to rewind." She couldn't hide her surprise.
The event was also attended by Okada, Fujisaki Yumia, Kiyohara Kaya, Higashide Masahiro, Sometani Shota, Saotome Taichi, Endo Yuya, Taiiku Okazaki Taiiku, Kazunari Ninomiya, Hiroshi Tamaki, Ito Hideaki, and director Michihito Fujii.
"Ikusagami" is a live-action adaptation of the "Ikusagami" series, a samurai battle royale novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Shogo Imamura. The story is set in the Meiji era, when the era of the samurai came to an end. In the live-action version, 292 skilled warriors gather at Tenryu-ji Temple in Kyoto late at night in the year 11 of the Meiji era, with the opportunity to win a huge prize. They are told the rules of a game called Kodoku, in which each person competes to grab a wooden card that has been distributed to them, and whoever reaches Tokyo will receive the prize. The protagonist, Shujiro, decides to participate in the game in order to save his wife and child from illness... and so the story unfolds.
