It was announced on November 13th that actors Mizukawa Asami and Masataka Kubota will be appearing together as a married couple in season 2 of the drama "SHOGUN," produced and starring Sanada Hiroyuki. Other new cast members announced include Kaneda Noboru, Enoki Takaaki, and Kunimura Jun.
Mizukawa will play Aya, Kubota will play Hinata, Kaneda will play Hidenobu, Enoki will play Ito, and Kunimura will play Goda, but the details of their roles have not been revealed. This will be the first time that Mizukawa and Kubota will appear together as a married couple since their marriage.
In addition to Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, Nikaido Fumi, Abe Shinnosuke, Kanai Hiroto, Horaguchi Yoriko, Tommy Bastow, Tommy Bastow Yuko, Miyamoto Yuko, Okuno Eita, and Mukai Yuka will also be continuing to appear in their roles from season 1.
Season 2, which is scheduled to begin filming in Vancouver, Canada from January next year, will tell a story inspired by the history of two men from different worlds whose destinies are intricately intertwined, set 10 years after the events of the first season.
"SHOGUN" is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by James Clavell. Set in Japan's Warring States period, the story revolves around three characters, with fictionalized names: Toranaga Yoshii (played by Sanada), a warlord modeled on Tokugawa Ieyasu; John Blackthorne (played by Miura Anjin, played by Cosmo Jarvis), a British navigator who is shipwrecked in Japan; and his interpreter, Mariko Toda (played by Sawai). The series is available on Disney+ in Japan, and in addition to season 2, a third season has also been confirmed.
