To commemorate the November 7th release of the new film in the popular Chinese animated film series The Legend of Hei, The Legend of Hei 2: The Future We Want, a special video entitled "The Day Mugen Dreamed Too" has been released on YouTube. The video, which has already been released in China, has been localized for Japan, and is a special edition made up of only scenes not used in the main film.
The new film is set two years after the events of the previous one. Xiaohei was living a peaceful life in a small village with his master Mugen, but an attack on a certain hall threatens the long-standing peace of the fairy world. As they face one threat after another, Xiaohei sets out on a new adventure with his senior disciple, Ruye, in search of the truth... This is the story. The Japanese dubbed and subtitled versions were released simultaneously on November 7th.
"The Legend of Hei" is produced by Chinese animator and animation director MTJJ and Hanmu Chunhua (HMCH) Studio. The web anime series was released on a video site in March 2011 and gained popularity, followed by a theatrical release. The theatrical version was a hit, grossing approximately 315 million yuan (approximately 4.9 billion yen) at the box office in China.
A subtitled version was released in Japan in September 2019, and a Japanese dubbed version was released in November 2020. The dubbed version had a long run of screenings lasting about six months, and grossed over 520 million yen.
