Filming for "Yamada Todoroki Law Office," a spin-off drama of the NHK Asadora drama series "The Tiger and Her Wings ," starring Sairi Ito , which will air in the first half of 2024, was recently held at the Nagoya City Municipal Archives (Higashi Ward, Nagoya), and a comment has been received from Shiori Doi, who plays the main character, Yamada Yone.
Doi expressed her joy at being able to play "Yone-san" again, saying, "Ever since filming wrapped up on ' The Tiger and Her Wings,' I'd always said I wanted to do a spin-off, but quite a bit of time has passed since then, and I thought it was probably over, but then I heard that a spin-off project had been decided, and I was really happy."
"Even after the broadcast ended, I received so many comments from various people, which has deepened my understanding and love for ' The Tiger and Her Wings'. I feel like I'm going into a deeper level with this shoot, and I'm approaching filming every day thinking it's a wonderful experience. Filming on location in Aichi Prefecture brings back so many nostalgic memories. The Nagoya City Municipal Archives was where we filmed the schoolgirl scenes for ' The Tiger and Her Wings', so it felt like I was remembering my student days, and rather than feeling like I'd been back to a place I'd been to for the first time in a long time, it felt like I was returning to the place where I spent my student days, and it made me feel very warm and fuzzy," she commented.
He continued, "We filmed the final scene, and it was a wonderful production that brought me to tears while I was acting. It's a truly wonderful scene, so I hope you don't miss it until the very end."
Production manager Ozaki Hirokazu revealed the story behind the scenes, saying, "Ever since ' The Tiger and Her Wings' was broadcast, we've had a lot of requests from fans about making a spin-off. Among them, there were a lot of requests to see a story about Yone and Todoroki, so from the time of filming the main part of ' The Tiger and Her Wings', I've been talking with the scriptwriters Yoshida (Erika) and Doi, and Tozuka (Junki), who plays Todoroki, about how I'd like to do a spin-off."
"This spin-off was planned and realized after the broadcast of ' The Tiger and Her Wings' ended, in response to feedback from everyone. We also came to the Nagoya City Municipal Archives for filming during ' The Tiger and Her Wings', and it is a place with which we have a connection, as Yoshiko Mibuchi, the model for Torako, also worked. I am very happy to be able to film here again," he said.
"The Tiger and Her Wings" is an original story based on the life of Yoshiko Mibuchi (1914-1984), Japan's first female lawyer and later a judge. It depicts the heroine and her companions carving out a path where none existed in difficult times, saving lost children and desperate women. The spin-off, "Yamada Todoroki Law Office," will incorporate extensive backstories of Yone and Todoroki, depicting the world of "The Tiger and Her Wings" from the perspective of a lawyer. It will air in March 2026.
