Rakugo performer Katsura Beidanji will appear on Kuroyanagi Tetsuko's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will be broadcast at 1:00 p.m. on November 5th.
It has been 10 years since his father, Yonekichi, a Living National Treasure and one of the people who led the revival of Kamigata Rakugo after the war, passed away. Because his father's presence was so great, he had many worries when he was younger, but he reveals that a certain incident helped him change his attitude.
He learned a lot from his mother, who was a member of Shochiku's opera company, including Japanese dance, and he says that this knowledge is what he uses in his current performing arts. His wife, a soprano singer, whom he has been married to for 34 years, is his greatest support. He met his wife through opera, and she loves handicrafts, so their house is filled with her creations.
