The second part of the popular Gundam anime film series, Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash(directed by Murase Shukou), Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash : Circe's Witch, will be released in 365 theaters nationwide on January 30, 2026. The role of Gigi Andalusia, a young girl who holds the key to the story, will be played by popular voice actress Reina Ueda. Ueda has also been making waves for her role as the popular character Reze in the hit animated film Chainsaw Man : Reze Arc.
◇Intense human drama
"Hathaway's Flash" is based on a novel published in 1989-90 by director Yoshiyuki Tomino, known as the creator of the "Gundam" series. Set in the year 0105 of the Universal Century, it depicts Hathaway Noah, who experienced a bitter separation during the Second Neo Zeon War, piloting a new mobile suit, the XI Gundam, in a rebellion against the Earth Federation government. The anime has been announced to be made up of three parts, and the first part, released in June 2021, was a hit, grossing approximately 2.23 billion yen.
One of the attractions of this series is the intense human drama in which the fates of Hathaway, the leader of the anti-Earth Federation government movement, Mufty, Gigi, a girl with mysterious powers, and Colonel Kenneth Sleg of the Earth Federation Forces intersect. Unable to shake off his feelings for Gigi, Hathaway acts to accomplish his goal as Mufty, while Kenneth prepares to eliminate Mufty. The destiny of Hathaway and Kenneth is connected by the femme fatale, Gigi.
◇Reze, who is the talk of the town for being the perfect fit for the role
Reze, played by Ueda in "Chainsaw Man : Reze Arc," is also a femme fatale. Reze appears by chance in front of the main character, Denji, and with her frequent body contact and suggestive behavior, Denji becomes obsessed with her. Social media is flooded with praise for Ueda's fragile acting and whispery voice, and she has become a hot topic, with people saying she is "perfect for the role."
Gigi from "Hathaway's Flash" exudes a bewitching charm with his blonde hair, blue eyes, fearless personality, and elegant demeanor. In the first part, he sees through Hathaway's true identity as Mufti, and repeatedly speaks and acts as if he can see into the mind of Kenneth, Hathaway's enemy.
The mysterious Gigi reminds Hathaway of a former love interest. Kenneth sees Gigi as a being with special powers. Gigi will change the fate of Hathaway, Kenneth, and even the world.
