It has been announced that Go Nagai's popular manga "Cutie Honey" will be adapted into a live-action drama and distributed on the short drama distribution service "DMM Short." The 15-episode series, titled "Cutie Honey BELOVED ENEMY," will be exclusively distributed from November 25th. The lead role will be played by model Natsuki Abe, who has been dubbed the "Reiwa era's Fujiko Mine" due to her outstanding figure.
"Cutie Honey" is a popular series with many fans that has been adapted into various media mix works such as TV anime, live-action movies, and stage plays over the years since Nagai's original manga was created in 1973. This new work will be an original story that includes new developments not found in the original work.
The main character, Honey Kisaragi, is well known for being able to freely transform into any professional in any profession and demonstrate her abilities by shouting "Honey Flash!", and Honey's transformations are one of the main attractions of this work. She appears in a variety of costumes, from a serious office worker in an office suit to the strongest professional wrestler and a charismatic host.
Honey's iconic bright red short hair and shiny tight suit have been updated to the Reiwa era while retaining the series' tradition. The visuals further accentuate Honey's sexy and powerful impression.
Abe commented, "I was so excited to be playing Cutie Honey, a national character that everyone knows! I'm usually called the 'Reiwa Fujiko Mine,' and when I found out that both Honey and Fujiko were voiced by (voice actress) Masuyama Eiko, I really felt a connection. I thought, 'This is fate!' and I was really looking forward to the film."
Regarding the filming, she said, "I had a lot of fun listening to and studying the voices and speaking styles of all the previous Honeys. I approached the filming with an awareness of how to express both her cuteness and her hidden strength." She also appealed, "I hope you'll look forward to seeing how the modern version of Honey will fight against society and shine. There are lots of costume changes, and all of the outfits are really cute, so I hope you'll pay attention to that as well."
