It has been announced that "Kiriou Fan Club," a manga by Pon-chan, the Earth Fish, which has also been adapted into a TV drama, will be adapted into a TV anime in 2026. The series was serialized in "COMIC Ryuel" (Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha) from 2022 to 2024, and is a one-way romantic comedy depicting high school girls Aimi Miyoshi and Nami Someya as they engage in endless fantasies and love affairs with their crush, classmate Ken Kirio. It gained popularity, ranking in the top 10 for two consecutive years, at 6th place in the "This Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2024" women's edition and 10th in the "This Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2025" women's edition. It was adapted into a live-action TV drama in April of this year. Plans for an anime adaptation were announced at the same time as the live-action version, and now the TV anime adaptation has been officially announced.
The main cast has also been announced, with Nene Hieda Miyoshi, Shion Wakayama as Nami Someya, and Taketo Kajiwara as Ken Kirio. So Toyama will be the director, Aya Satsuki will be in charge of series composition and scriptwriting, Nami Hayashi will be in charge of animation character design, and Satelight will be producing the anime.
The original author, Chikyu no O-Sakana Pon-chan, commented, "Kirio Fan Club is being made into an anime! When I started drawing this work, I never even imagined it would be made into an anime, so I am overwhelmed with emotion. I would like to praise my past self for creating a work that could be made into an anime, and to all the readers who supported it! I am so proud! And more than that, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who was involved in the anime adaptation. The wonderful cast and staff have all worked together to create this, so please look forward to it airing!"
Hieda, who plays Miyoshi Aimi, said, "I'm Hieda Nene, and I'll be playing Nene Hieda Aimi. I'm so happy to be able to introduce myself like this!! First of all, the original work for 'Kirio Fan Club' is so wonderful...the more I read it, the more I was absorbed in it, and as the audition approached, my love for it grew until I was so overwhelmed it almost hurt (laughs). So when I heard I'd been cast as Aimi, I was so happy I cried! This is my first time working on such a comedic, youthful work and role, and every episode was always fresh and fun, and Aimi brought out so many expressions and emotions I'd never experienced before. I want this to be a hit with fans of the original work, of course, but also with everyone who has ever loved someone or something, and even those who haven't!! I really hope that lots of people will watch it!! Thank you very much!!"
Wakayama, who plays Someya Nami, commented, "It's not 'Someya,' it's 'Sometani.' First of all, I'm really, really happy to be involved in the TV animation adaptation of my favorite work, 'Kirio Fan Club.' The flow of time that only students experience, the wildness that only otaku experience, and the worries that come with liking something...our reality is there. The fact that it makes you chuckle and gives you energy when you see it is what makes this work special, and I think what attracts so many people. I will do my best to convey the wonderful things about this work to the viewers through my acting. Nami is the type of girl who doesn't get easily shaken and can do anything well, and she spends her days having fun with the uniquely laid-back Aimi-chan. I wonder what kind of story she will weave...I hope you will watch."
Kajiwara, who plays Kirio Ken, said, "Kirio Fan Club is simply the best work. It's youthful, it makes your stomach churn with the endless exchange of jokes, it's sweet, it's so bitter it's more than just sweet, and then it's so warm that it brings tears to your eyes... In short, being involved in this work brings a whole range of emotions. I'm amazed at how I'm carried away by the sharp, stylish world that Pon-chan-sensei has drawn. But it's also very comfortable. The dubbing wasn't easy either, but I put a lot of thought and heart into Kirio. I really want as many people as possible to see it; no, please definitely see it!!"
A teaser visual depicting Aimi and Nami secretly thinking about Kirio in a light-filled classroom, as well as a teaser PV featuring Aimi and Nami, have been released.
