The 16th episode of the NHK Asadora drama "Bakebake " (Monday to Saturday, 8:00 AM and other times), in which Akari Takaishi plays the heroine, was broadcast on October 20th, and viewers were drawn to the words and actions of Kan'emon ( Fumiyo Kohinata).
In episode 16, a few days after Den's (Shinichi Tsutsumi) death, the weaving factory is scheduled to close, leaving Toki (Takaishi) without a job. Debt collector Moriyama (Iwatani Kenji) relentlessly demands repayment from the Matsuno family and suggests that Toki become a prostitute. Despite this, while the Matsuno family members remain carefree, Ginjiro is the only one who feels a sense of crisis. He asks Moriyama to introduce him to a job and begins soliciting customers at the brothel. To repay his debt, he carries luggage during the day, solicits customers at night, and even does side jobs, working from morning to night.
Kan'emon, who has learned from Tsukasanosuke(Takashi Okabe) that Ginjiro is working as a solicitor at a brothel, comes to see him while he is at work. Kan'emon reproaches him, saying, "This will lower the status of our family," and "Don't bring any more shame on us," but Ginjiro retorts, "We don't have time to worry about our status!" and "Why don't you just sell your armor and swords and make some money, Grandpa?" Kan'emon then becomes enraged and says, "The Matsuno family doesn't need the money you earned by bringing shame on them! You won't get a single penny in our pocket!"
When Ginjiro returns home, he asks Toki if they would like to live together in a distant city. Toki, who cares about his family, is unable to respond. The next morning, Ginjiro leaves a note and runs away. Toki screams, crying and regretting, "I was being spoiled... I was being spoiled, thinking we would be together forever..."
Kan'emon watches Toki like this. When Toki returns home, Kan'emon has sold all of his swords and armor to an antique dealer. Toki is surprised, and Kan'emon says, "Ojo... bring him back." "I've met Ginjiro's father. He's here now," he says, handing him his Tokyo address. "I've made the money. Bring back your heir. I swear it, you'll do it."
Comments on social media included, "Grandpa is sorry, but I think it's too late now," "I guess he's finally realizing the magnitude of what he's lost," "Otoki's tears have made Grandpa realize that there are things he needs to protect beyond protecting his pride as a samurai," and "Grandpa called Ginjiro his successor. This is Grandpa's utmost sincerity...for Ojo, who was moved to tears."
