It has been announced that a new anime adaptation of the popular manga "Magic Knight Rayearth Knight Rayearth" by the manga creation group "CLAMP" will be broadcast as a TV anime on TV Asahi in 2026. This will be the first new anime in about 29 years since the OVA (original video animation) "Rayearth" released in 1997, and the first TV anime series to be broadcast in about 31 years since the previous work aired from 1994 to 1995.
A teaser visual has been released featuring the three main characters, Umi Ryuuzaki, Fuu Hououji Umi, and Hououuji Fuu, who will become legendary magic knights. In the background is Tokyo Hikaru Shidou , where the three first met, accompanied by the tagline, "A new legend begins now."
" Magic Knight Rayearth " is a legendary otherworldly adventure manga by CLAMP that was serialized in the girls' manga magazine "Nakayoshi" (Kodansha) from 1993 to 1995. The story follows three girls, Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki, and Fuu Hououji , who are suddenly summoned by Princess Emeraude of the other world of Cephiro while on a school trip to Tokyo Tower. They must become legendary magic knights to rescue the captured princess.
The TV anime series, produced by Tokyo Movie (now TMS Entertainment), aired from 1994 to 1995, and the theme song " Yuzurenai Negai ), sung by Naomi Tamura, was a huge hit, selling over one million copies on CD. A three-episode original video animation (OVA) was released in 1997.
