It has been announced that the TV anime "Awashima Hyakkei," based on the manga by Takako Shimura, who is also known for "Aoi Hana" and "Hōrō Musuko," will begin airing in April 2026. The main cast has been announced, with Nakabayashi Arika playing Tabata Wakana, a preparatory student at Awashima Opera School who dreams of becoming a museum star, and Daichi Yo playing Takehara Kinue, a regular student who pursues a career in theater, carrying the hopes of her best friend.
The story is set at Awashima Opera School, where girls from all over the country gather to dream of performing on stage. It is a coming-of-age graffiti that depicts the irreplaceable days of Wakana, a freshman who enrolls with the dream of becoming a musical star, Kinue, the dorm supervisor who continues to study while carrying the hopes of her best friend, and Emi, a beautiful scholarship student with an overwhelming presence. It also garnered attention when it was selected for the Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival, an award given by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Nakabayashi, who plays Tabata Wakana, commented, "I am honored to be involved in such a delicate and wonderful work that makes you want to keep it close to your daily life. I will do my best to act carefully so that Wakana's feelings are conveyed. I look forward to working with you!"
Daichi, who plays Takehara Kinue, said, "Since the day I decided to live as an actor, I have often felt conflicted and regretful feelings, but I am glad that I continued with this work without giving up. This production made me feel that way from the bottom of my heart. I hope that this quiet appeal reaches as many people as possible."
The first promotional video, depicting the encounter between Tabata Wakana and Takehara Kinue, has been released on YouTube. Character visuals will be released over three consecutive months leading up to the broadcast, with Tabata Wakana's visual being the first to be released.
