Singer-songwriter Kaze Fujii made his first appearance on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which aired on September 8th. He talked about what inspired him to start playing the piano and an episode from when he moved to Tokyo.
Fujii, originally from Satosho Town, Okayama Prefecture, made his debut in 2020 after posting piano cover videos on YouTube. He quickly gained attention for his musicality and the messages he conveys in his songs, and quickly gained fans around the world. He quickly rose to become an international artist.
Fujii grew up as the youngest of four siblings. He started playing the piano at the age of three and played it all the time except when he was at kindergarten. "My father was a very enthusiastic person. There were times when I thought, 'Everyone else is playing,' while he was playing, but I never grew to dislike the piano itself," he revealed.
"Being a musician was my father's dream all along. I feel like I inherited that dream," said Fujii. His father taught him, "Don't ask for things, be the one who is asked," and he worked hard to become "someone who is needed."
When she moved to Tokyo at age 20, she cried. "I wondered why I was crying so much. I really loved my parents, so I was sad to be leaving them. And everyone in my hometown too," she said.
Fujii says he listens to music all the time. "I try to listen to all kinds of music, even things I don't know. I'm trying to find new songs. I want to discover new worlds that I don't know yet," he said, expressing his boundless passion for music.
