Tokushige's master, Akaike (Tanaka Min), survived the operation but was diagnosed with Budd-Chiari syndrome and was told he had only about a month left to live unless he underwent a liver transplant, a radical treatment. However, Akaike refused further treatment and declared to Tokushige (Matsumoto), "I won't say a word from now on."
While Takino ( Fuka Koshiba) is distressed because she doesn't understand Akaike's true intentions, Tokushige calmly takes action. "The only option to fundamentally improve your condition is a liver transplant. You don't have any family, so I'll be the donor," he suggests to Akaike. "If the transplant is successful, there's a good chance you'll live to the end of your natural lifespan," he explains.
"What's the benefit of that? The lifespan of an old man like me. I've already done everything I can. I struggle, I struggle, there's nothing more I can do. What's the point of living?"
When asked about the meaning of life, Tokushige said with strong conviction, "Why are you trying to give up? I believed in you and followed you. Doctor, the general medicine department has only just begun. Let's wait and see if what you started was right or wrong. Let's continue to struggle and fight, with a mountain between our eyebrows, and live our lives. Dr. Akaike and I both."
On social media, people were talking about it, saying things like, "It was a great drama. It made me want to meet a doctor like Dr. Tokushige in real life who listened to me so kindly," "It was a really great drama until the very end. I hope there will be a second season," "Matsumoto's portrayal of the gentle Dr. Tokushige and Fuka Koshiba's role were perfect. I want to watch more," and "I'm looking forward to a sequel. It was a great drama."
