Actor Chieko Matsubara will appear on BS12 TwellV's program "Tsurube-chan and Sawako-chan: A Showa-era Senior and the Odd Couple," which will air from 9 p.m. on September 1st. Matsubara made her acting debut when she was a high school student and won the Miss 16-year-old contest held by Nikkatsu. Together with Sayuri Yoshinaga and Masako Izumi, Matsubara, who was known as one of the "Nikkatsu Three Girls" and supported Nikkatsu's golden age, will share stories of how she overcame schedules so hectic that they kept her from sleeping.
The show features guests each time, including two "Showa era greats" who call Tsurube Shofutei, who has 53 years of experience in the entertainment industry, and Sawako Agawa, who has 42 years of experience, "Tsurube-chan" and "Sawako-chan."
On the show, she talks about everything from her turbulent entertainment career to her private life, including how she met her fiancée at the age of 27, and her love for her favorite Major League Baseball player, Shohei Ohtani, whom she even watches in person.
Matsubara, who grew up as a "rich lady" loved by those around her, was given a house and a car as gifts from her father right after her debut, and has been acting for over 60 years. Now at 80 years old, she still has the same natural and cute side as before.
The preview for the show introduces Matsubara as a "silver screen star." Tsurube asks Matsubara, "Can you go to a convenience store by yourself?" to which he replies, "I've been doing that recently." Agawa also asks, "Can't you move around without someone to pick you up?" to which he replies, "I'm fine around the house."
