It has been announced that Charlotte Kate Fox, who played the heroine in the NHK Asadora drama "Massan" in the latter half of 2014, will appear in the NHK morning drama "Bakebake" in the latter half of 2025, which will start on September 29th. She will play a female journalist active in the United States and a colleague of Lefkada Heaven (Tommy Bastow).
This will be Fox's third appearance in an Asadora, following "Massan" and "Beppin-san" (2016 fall season). This time, she will play Eliza Belsland, a "perfect woman" who is intelligent, has the drive to travel the world, and encourages Heaven to go to Japan.
"Bakebake" is the story of a couple who, together with their foreign husband, love ghost stories and shed light on the "nameless people" who had been forgotten in Meiji-era Japan as it became increasingly Westernized, and who acted as spokespeople for them. Akari Takaishi stars as the heroine Toki Matsuno , the daughter of a fallen samurai from Matsue, who is modeled after Yakumo Koizumi(Lafcadio Hearn ) wife, Setsu. The script is written by Fujiki Mitsuhiko, who has worked on NHK's "Asagaya Sisters' Laid-Back Life" and WOWOW's "Shooting Break Series," among others.
◇Comment from Charlotte Kate Fox
I am very happy to be appearing in another Asadora following "Massan" and "Beppin-san." It's been a while since I last came to BK (NHK Osaka), and just getting on the elevator brought back many fond memories.
The character I'm playing this time is an independent, strong, and intelligent woman. I'm sure she loves challenges and adventures. It's a role I haven't played much before, so I'm very excited to have this opportunity. Her relationship with Lefkada Haven, played by Tommy Bastow, is also wonderful. I hope you'll look forward to seeing how these two develop in the future. I will do my best to act in a way that will bring a smile to everyone's face every morning.
◇Comment from Production Director Kuniomi Hashizume
Many of the staff who worked on "Massan" were also there, and we welcomed them back with "Welcome back!" Eliza is a fellow reporter whom Haven admires, and there are scenes where she is in America. When Tommy and Charlotte both entered the set together, it was like Hollywood! It was very exciting. It's an important role that will have a big impact on Toki, so we wanted to ask someone we could trust to play it, and so we asked them to come to Japan for the first time in five years.
As a senior Asadora heroine and a senior foreign actor, I believe she will be a great help to Takaishi-san and Tommy-san both on and off set. It is reassuring to have such a reliable person join the team.
