A special video for "Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning," the latest installment in the popular action movie series "Mission: Impossible," starring American actor Tom Cruise, was released on August 20th. The video takes a look behind the scenes of the "propeller plane action," one of the film's highlights, and conveys the passion of Cruise and the production team.
The special video was released to commemorate the digital release of the film on August 20th, followed by the release of the 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on October 17th.
The video begins by explaining that the history of "Wings" (1927), a pioneering silent film in aerial action that won Best Picture and Best Technical Effects (at the time) at the first Academy Awards, has led to the aerial action scenes that Cruise has performed in films like "Mission: Impossible" and "Top Gun." Using the example of an aerial action scene using a propeller plane, which could be seen as an homage to "Wings," the video focuses on Cruise's attempts to perform superhuman action.
To ensure it could withstand filming, the entire aircraft was reinforced, repainted, and multiple cameras were attached to adjust the angle of view. Thorough preparations were made, including simulations using 3D animation to check its operation. What was surprising was that director Christopher McQuarrie himself stood on the wing of the aircraft while it was in flight, conducting tests. Regarding Cruise's incredible stunts in a propeller plane soaring freely at an altitude of 2,400 meters at a speed of 225 kilometers per hour, McQuarrie made a memorable statement: "It's the culmination of 30 years of work. Tom was determined to create the best possible footage for the audience."
