Hidehiko Masuda and Keisuke Okada of the comedy duo "Masuda Okada" appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which aired on August 14th. Masuda talked about how he was awarded a gold badge by his alma mater last year, which is given to those who have made distinguished contributions, and they both expressed their gratitude to each other.
The two met at Kansai Gaidai Junior College. Masuda was invited to the university last year, where they award gold, silver, and bronze badges to those who have made contributions, and he said, "I received the gold." He humbly said, "Masuda said that I was the first person to give someone a gold medal. Even though I graduated from Kansai Gaidai, I could barely speak English and I was no good at studying at all." He said that he was recognized for talking about his alma mater on various TV programs.
As Okada is also a classmate, he asked, "Who's your partner?" to which she replied, "Not quite yet, Okada." Okada, hearing this, showed his anger, saying, "We're classmates, aren't we? We've walked the same (path), so what's the difference between you saying it's not quite yet?" Masuda joked, "Okada says it's a little early. Maybe it's because you don't feel any love for your alma mater." Okada appealed, "Chairman, please. Bronze is fine. Bronze please."
The comedy duo has been together for 32 years. At Kuroyanagi's invitation, the two expressed their gratitude to each other. Masuda said, "I've wanted to be a manzai comedian since I was a child, but I didn't have the courage to enter this world alone, so my partner accompanied me and helped me. Without my partner, I wouldn't have been able to enter this world, so I'd like to thank you for supporting my dream," to which Okada responded, "I'm grateful to you for allowing me to meet so many great people, including Tetsuko, and for giving me the opportunity to do the best job possible."
