To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the serialization of the popular manga "NANA" by manga artist Yazawa Ai, who is celebrating her 40th anniversary this year, a mook titled "The World of Yazawa Ai's 'NANA'" (Heibonsha) was released on August 7th. The mook explains the world of "NANA" through fashion, music, interviews with Yazawa, and more, and has been generating buzz even before its release, leading to the decision to reprint it before its release, an unusual move. In addition to newly drawn illustrations, with the full cooperation of Yazawa and Shueisha, the book also includes never-before-seen materials such as rough sketches and drawing materials.
In the special feature "Getting to Know Yazawa Ai: 110 Questions," Yazawa talks about her current life and thoughts on her work. In "Yazawa Ai Talks About the Secrets of Her Artwork," she reveals for the first time the original manuscripts from the production process. Also included is a "NANA Character Encyclopedia" introducing the 110 characters. Comments from Yazawa are also included for the main characters.
Novelist Mizuki Tsujimura writes the opening remarks, talking about the appeal of Yazawa's work. The book also includes articles that delve deeper into the culture depicted in the story, including the Sex Pistols, the world of London punk, and the fashion world, including Vivienne Westwood, which the characters admire. The book also includes data on all of Yazawa's works and a brief chronology.
