The results of the " Koyoharu Gotouge Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Kanji" fan poll held to commemorate the release of the new theatrical version of the popular anime "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Infinity Castle Arc Arc Chapter 1: Akaza Returns," based on the popular manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, have been announced, revealing that "Metsu" ("Destroy") came in first place. The poll was organized in cooperation with the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine (Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City), and involved fans choosing the single kanji character that best represents "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba." Out of a total of 23,318 votes, "Metsu" received 5,886 votes, taking first place. The winner was announced after a performance by calligrapher Tomoko Kawao at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.
The kanji included over 400 characters, including the names of characters and techniques that appear in "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Kimetsu no Yaiba." Second place was "Kizuna" (bond), third place was "Oni" (demon), fourth place was "Tsunagi" (connection), fifth place was "Katana" (sword), sixth place was "Honoo" (flame), seventh place was "Tsugu" (connection), eighth place was "Mu" (nothing), ninth place was "Hashira" (pillar), and tenth place was "Ren" (refined).
"Infinity Castle Arc" is a trilogy, and "Chapter 1: Akaza Returns" was released on July 18th in 452 theaters, surpassing "Mugen Train." The film's running time is 155 minutes. Within eight days of its release, it grossed over 10 billion yen, breaking the record held by the theatrical release "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train," which held the highest box office revenue in Japan's history. It's also making waves as the fastest film to reach 10 billion yen in the history of Japanese releases. Within 10 days of its release, it grossed 12.87 billion yen, with an audience of over 9.1 million.
"Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Kimetsu no Yaiba" tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, whose family was killed by demons, who joins the Demon Slaying Corps in order to turn his sister Nezuko, who has turned into a demon, back into a human. The original manga was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 2016 to 2020. The total number of copies of the manga sold worldwide is over 220 million. The TV anime "Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc" aired from April to September 2019, and the movie "Mugen Train" was released in October 2020. The "Entertainment District Arc" aired from December 2021 to February 2022, the "Swordsmith Village Arc" from April to June 2023, and the "Hashira Training Arc" from May to June 2024.
