It has been revealed that star-related events in connection with Disney and Pixar's new animated film "Elio" (released August 1st) will be held across the country.
"Tokyu Plaza Omotesando 'Omokado'" in Harajuku, Tokyo will change its name to "Hoshikado" for two weeks only from July 28 to August 10. The area will open for a limited time, including an area where you can experience the "Immersive 'Communiverse' Tour" using an experiential 360-degree LED vision, which will be exhibited for the first time in Japan, the "Star-Connecting KAWAII Art Exhibition" where inspiring art drawn by 14 unique creators will be exhibited, and the "KAWAII 'ALIEN' CAFE".
Additionally, 10 commercial facilities across the country, including Toranomon Hills Station Tower (Minato-ku, Tokyo), will host the "Drawing Communiverse" event, where visitors can draw their favorite alien and unleash it on a big screen. Four Konica Minolta planetariums across the country will screen special trailers overhead, and the Achi Village Starry Sky Screening will be held in Achi Village, Nagano Prefecture, known as "the village with the most beautiful starry sky in Japan."
The protagonist of "Elio" is a boy named Elio who loves space and feels lonely after losing his parents, who were his biggest supporters. Elio believes that somewhere in this vast world, there must be a "true place for him to belong". His sad wish is answered, and he is invited to the dreamlike "Comniverse" where representatives of the stars gather. There, he meets Grodon, an alien boy who is just as lonely. The two share a bond, but a threat that will shake up the "world of the stars" approaches. The key to their salvation lies in a "promise" made by the two lonely people... This is the story.
The directors are Madeline Sharafian, who served as a story artist on "Coco" (2017), Domee Shi, who directed "Me and the Red Panda" (2022), and Adrian Molina, who wrote and co-directed "Coco". The Japanese voice actors are Eito Kawahara as Elio, Nana Kiyohara as his aunt Olga, Nana Seino as Grodon, and Kenichi Matsuyama as Grodon's father and villain, Glygon.
