"Paris Opera Alexander Ekman's PLAY," created by choreographer Alexander Ekman and performed at the Opera Garnier in Paris in 2017, will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand from 2:00 p.m. on July 5th.
Ekman is a Swedish choreographer who attracted worldwide attention when he directed and choreographed the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Paralympics. "PLAY" was created for the Paris Opera Ballet and premiered at the Opera Garnier in Paris in 2017. It will be performed again in 2021, 2024, and 2025, and its first overseas performance will be in Tokyo in July of this year.
The play to be broadcast is the one that premiered in 2017. Based on the theme of "Have we stopped playing as children?", the first act features an energetic performance of childhood games using balls, ribbons, skipping ropes, etc. In contrast, the second act depicts adults who have forgotten how to play and are exhausted by their routines.
