Kana Hanazawa and Hiroki Yasumoto to appear in the second season of the TV anime " Kaiju No. 8 "

It has been announced that Kana Hanazawa and Hiroki Yasumoto will be appearing as voice actors in the second season of the TV anime " Kaiju No. 8 ," based on the popular manga by Naoya Matsumoto , which is currently being serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump +." Hanazawa will play Shinonome Rin, the platoon leader of the first squad led by Gen Gen Narumi , Japan's strongest anti-monster force, and Yasumoto will play Hasegawa Eiji, the vice captain of the first squad.

It was also announced that Norwegian singer-songwriter AURORA will be performing the opening theme for the second season, "You Can't Run From Yourself." This will be AURORA's first time performing the opening theme for a Japanese anime.

The main promotional video for the second season, "A New Threat," using the OP, has been released on YouTube. In the video, Kafka Hibino and Kikoru Shinomiya join the First Division led by Gen Narumi , further strengthening their fighting power, while Kaiju No. 9, which has a different appearance from the first season, appears as a new threat.

Yasumoto commented on Hasegawa Eiji, "He's a tough and reliable man, but he also has an understanding of his young and talented comrades, including Captain Narumi. An advance screening of the second season will be held at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) on July 13. After the screening, there will be a stage greeting with Asami Seto Mina Ashiro , Soshiro Hoshina Kawanishi, who plays Koki Uchiyama , Kouki Kengo Kawanishi, who plays Gen Narumi , and Hiroki Yasumoto, who plays Eiji Hasegawa.

"Kaiju No. 8" has been serialized in "Shonen Jump+" since July 2020. Set in Japan, a monster superpower where monsters mercilessly invade everyday life, the story follows the adventures of the protagonist, Kafka Hibino, whose body has been transformed into a monster by a mysterious creature. It also attracted attention in 2021 when it was selected as the grand prize winner in the web manga category of the "Next Manga Awards 2021." The comic has sold over 18 million copies in Japan.

The anime is produced by Production IG, which has worked on the Ghost in the Shell series, while Studio Khara, which worked on the Rebuild of Evangelion series, is in charge of monster design and works. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2024. The second season will air every Saturday at 11pm on TV Tokyo and other networks from July 19th. Following the first season, it will be streamed in real time to the world on X.
