It has been revealed that singer-songwriter Sheena Ringo will be performing the theme song for the mystery film "About a Place in the Kinki Region" (directed by Shiraishi Koji, to be released on August 8th), starring actors Miho Kanno and Akaso Eiji. A part of the song was also shown in the official trailer, which was also released.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Sekin (KADOKAWA), which has sold over 350,000 copies. The first chapter was posted on the novel website "Kakuyomu" in January 2023, and as the serialization continued, the fan base expanded, especially among young people. It became a hit, with a total of over 22 million page views. The film is directed by Director Shiraishi, who has worked on "Noroi" (2005), "Sadako vs. Kayako" (2016), and "Sayuri" (2024), and the original author Sekin is also participating as a scriptwriter.
An editor of an occult magazine suddenly goes missing. Right before his disappearance, he seems to have been gathering various pieces of information, such as investigative documents from unsolved cases, feature articles on mysterious phenomena, and shelved interview notes from the past, and was investigating something. While searching for him, fellow editor Ozawa (Akaso) and writer Chihiro (Kanno) discover that all of these events took place in a "certain place in the Kinki region." Why did the incidents occur in that place? This is a new type of "location mystery."
Shiina wrote the theme song "Hakujitsu no Moto" for the film. Shiina said, "Horror is my forte. I am thrilled to have been asked to write a theme song for the film adaptation of such a frightening original work." She added, "It doesn't seem like they asked for a scary song this time. I'm ashamed that I accepted the request lightly, and I focused on the heavy issues that underlie this story."
He continued, "It was both my own problem and the biggest threat in my life, and the more I tried to portray it realistically, the more painful it was. As a result, I would be happy if I was able to be a part of the work." He also expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am looking forward to seeing Miho Kanno and all the other cast members' acting. Thank you so much for giving me this valuable opportunity."
