It has been announced that the band SEKAI NO OWARI will be performing the theme song "Illustrated Book" for "Dive in Wonderland," the first animated feature film adaptation of Lewis Carroll's masterpiece Alice in Wonderland. Member Saori commented, "I hope that the song will make the days of worrying and struggling about why I can't do things a little more endearing."
The official trailer was released on YouTube, and the theme song was unveiled. The trailer shows Rise, a university student who had been stuck trying to become something, being led to an invitation left by her late grandmother and jumping into Wonderland. Wonderland is a world where being "unusual" is the norm, and unique residents such as the hustling White Rabbit, the nonchalant Mad Hatter, the free-spirited March Hare, and the mysterious Cheshire Cat appear one after another. While being tossed around by the words of unique characters such as "common sense is a huge nuisance," "It's a big mistake to think that doing things seriously is enough!" and "What is kindness?", Rise faces her true feelings and starts to move forward little by little. Rise will embark on an adventure with Alice to find "love and herself."
It was also announced that Subaru Kimura, Ayumu Murase, Yuki Ono, and Natsuki Hanae will appear as additional cast members playing the "unusual" residents. Kimura and Murase will play the famous circus tent duo, the twin tweedles Dum and Dee, while Ono will play the Dormouse. The name and details of the character played by Hanae have not been revealed, and only a visual of him in the form of an apple has been released.
Kimura, who plays Tweedledum, commented, "If the true feelings and pretenses of this world had an appearance, then when I first saw the characters, I thought they would probably be twins like this, a little creepy but full of lovable charm. I also have fond memories of rapping together with Murase, who played Tweedledum. We look forward to seeing you all at the strange Dum and Dee Circus Tent."
Murase, who plays Tweedledee, said, "I really love the world that Director Shinohara (Toshiya) creates, and I am very happy to be working with him again. I feel that this is a work that follows the world and characters of Alice in Wonderland that everyone knows, while also embracing the dilemmas and drama of adolescence. I hope you will look forward to seeing how Tweedledee, whose voice I provide, becomes involved in the story! I hope that the vibe that Subaru and I created from the fun recording together will help the story!"
Ono, who plays the Dormouse, said, "I'm Ono Yuki Ono, and I'll be appearing as the Dormouse, the Pig, the train announcements, and more in 'Alice in Wonderland.' Due to the format of recording the anime, I was only able to do the voice-overs when the lines were still in line form, so I was looking forward to seeing what kind of animation it would turn out to be. However, the PV that has been released so far only lets you see a little bit of it, and it's a wonderful video that makes me even more excited for the finished product! Also, I was personally happy to be able to co-star with Nanoka Hara, with whom I worked on a certain morning children's program, for the first time in a long time. When we were reunited during the voice-over, she burst into tears of joy, and I could see that she was just as like she was back then, and that she had certainly grown up. I remember being moved by how similar she was to Rise in the series. So! Along with Rise, you can enjoy the charming characters, each with their own quirks, and the wonderful world of Alice in Wonderland in 'Alice in Wonderland,' so please enjoy it at the theater!"
Hanae commented, "I am truly honored to have been asked to play the role. The quirky characters that appear in this fantastical and deep world are very charming, and I naturally grew to like them during the dubbing. I hope you will look forward to seeing what role I will play. I have previously worked with the lead actress, Nanoka Hara, on a TV program, so I am really happy to be working with her again in this animated film. Be sure to check it out at the theater!"
The story is about a modern girl, Rise, who one day gets lost in Wonderland and meets Alice. The film will be directed by Toshiya Shinohara, who has worked on films such as "Nagi no Asukara," "Irozuku Sekai no Ashita Kara," and "Shiroi Sand no Aquatope," and produced by PAWORKS. It will be released on August 29th.
