It has been announced that four cast members of Team YELLOW from the musical "Jersey Boys," which will begin performances this Getsuku, will appear as performance guests on WOWOW's live broadcast of the 78th Annual Tony Awards ceremony, which will be held on June 9th (Japan time) at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The four are Kobayashi Yui, who plays Yui Kobayashi, spi, who plays Tommy DeVito, Arisawa Shotaro, who plays Bob Gaudio, and Iida Yosuke, who plays Nick Massi. They will perform in studio.
"Jersey Boys" is a jukebox musical based on the true story of The Four Seasons, America's leading pop group of the 1960s. It won four Tony Awards in 2006, including Best Musical, as well as a Laurence Olivier Award in 2007 and a Grammy Award in 2008. The popular musical first premiered in Japan in 2016 with a Japanese cast, and has since been performed again and in the world's first concert version. It will be performed at Theater Crea (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) from August 10th of this year.
The live broadcast on WOWOW will feature actors Yoshio Inoue and Emma Miyazawa as hosts, with Kenji Urai as a guest. Taiga Kyomoto from "SixTONES" will act as a special supporter.
On the day of the live broadcast, the musical "A Tale of Two Cities" will be performing in Osaka, and Inoue and Urai, who are starring in the musical, will appear live from a studio in Osaka, where they are staying. The four cast members of "Jersey Boys" will also perform from a studio in Osaka.
"Live Coverage! The 78th Tony Awards Ceremony" (bilingual version, simultaneous interpretation) will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Prime and WOWOW On Demand from 8:00 am on June Getsuku. The subtitled version will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Prime and WOWOW On Demand from 2:00 pm on the 15th.
In addition, a pre-show, which will mainly present awards to creators, will be streamed live on WOWOW On Demand from 7:40 AM on June Getsuku. The pre-show will also be available to watch with Japanese subtitles on the "78th Tony Awards Ceremony Subtitled Version," which will be broadcast and streamed from 2 PM on the 15th.
