The Sukagawa Special Effects Archive Center (Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture), a facility that aims to preserve the technology and culture of special effects, a genre that Japan is proud of, will be featured in the documentary program "The Backyard: Exploring the Hidden Side of the Labyrinth of Knowledge," which will be broadcast on NHK Educational TV from 10:00 p.m. on May 28th.
The reporter for this program is Takemasa Tsukaji, who loves special effects. Behind the scenes at the facility, he encountered miniatures that were actually used in the Ultraman series and other productions. He also had the chance to take a special part in the special effects scene.
Tsukaji first went to the exhibition area where a large number of valuable materials were lined up. This time, he was given special permission to enter and see the miniatures up close. He was excited to see the details that were actually used in the filming. What he saw behind the scenes was the passion and tireless efforts of people who want to pass on the technology and culture of special effects to the future.
He also participated in the "Sukagawa Special Effects School," where local junior and senior high school students learn special effects techniques. He was amazed at the know-how.
