The winners of the MatsuDemy Awards, a fan voting project for the popular anime series Mr. Osomatsu, were announced on May 26th. The project involves fans voting to determine the best episode from the first three seasons of the TV anime, and winners were announced in nine categories, including the Osomatsu Award and Karamatsu Award, which select the episode that best represents the sextuplets, the Legendary Idiot Award, the Most Cried Award, and the Best Recommendation for Beginners Award.
The Osomatsu Award went to episode 8 "Nagomi no Osomatsu" from the first season, the Karamatsu Award went to episode 11 "Pizza" from the third season, the Choromatsu Award went to episode 14 "Choromatsu Incident" from the second season, the Ichimatsu Award went to episode 16 "Ichimatsu Incident" from the first season, the Jyushimatsu Award went to episode 9 "Jyushimatsu in Love" from the first season, and the Todomatsu Award went to episode 7 "Todomatsu and the Five Devils" from the first season. The Most Tearful Award went to episode 18 "Iyami is Alone in the Wind" from the second season, the Best for Beginners Award went to episode 2 "Let's Get a Job" from the first season, and the Legendary Idiot Award went to episode 22 "Want to Be a Detective" from the third season.
In the "Best Matsu Demy Award" announcement video posted on YouTube, the sextuplets announced the winners of the awards named after them. Totoko was in charge of announcing the winners of the three categories: Legendary Idiot Award, Most Cried Award, and Best Recommendation for Beginners Award. The nine episodes selected as the best will be streamed all at once on YouTube from June 30th, ahead of the broadcast of the fourth season of the anime TV series. The project began with voting for the nominees on April 25th, and the final round of voting to decide the best episode took place on the official X (@osomatsu_PR) account from May Getsuku to 15th.
"Mr. Osomatsu" is based on Fujio Akatsuka's comedy manga "Osomatsu kun." It depicts the daily lives of the sextuplets as adults, and its extreme gags have made it popular among female anime fans. The first season of the TV anime aired from October 2015 to March 2016, the second season from October 2017 to March 2018, and the third season from October 2020 to March 2021. The movie version of "Osomatsu San Movie" was released in March 2019. The first new anime to commemorate the 6th anniversary, "Mr. Osomatsu: The Hippipo Tribe and the Shining Fruit," will be screened in theaters from July 2022, and the second, "Mr. Osomatsu: The Soulful Takoyaki Party and the Legendary Sleepover," will be screened in theaters from July 2023.
The fourth season of the TV anime will begin airing on TV Tokyo and other channels from July.
