Contemporary artist Tomokazu Matsuyama will be appearing on Kuroyanagi Tetsuko's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will air on May 20th at 1:00 pm.
Matsuyama grew up as a skateboarder in Los Angeles during his elementary school years. After returning to Japan, he aimed to become a professional snowboarder, but gave up after a serious injury. At the age of 25, he went to New York alone to pursue a career as an artist. He has great respect for Kuroyanagi, who also went to New York alone to study abroad in the 1970s, and is interested in hearing about her experiences back then.
Currently based in New York, Matsuyama produces a wide range of artworks, mainly paintings, and his unique works are based on themes of the world's diverse cultures and traditions, mixing a variety of elements. Some of his large-scale works cover public spaces or entire cities.
