It has been announced that the TV anime "A Star Brighter Than the Sun," based on the manga by Kazune Kawahara, known for "Sensei!", "High School Debut," and "Aozora Yell," will begin airing on TBS in October. It was also announced that Fujidera Mitsunori will play the role of Minori Fujidera, and Yuki Ono will play the role of Jingu Kouki. The anime will be directed by Kobayashi Aya and produced by Studio KAI.
"A Star Brighter Than the Sun" is a manga that has been serialized in "Bessatsu Margaret" (Shueisha) since June 2021. It depicts the first love of Iwata Sakue, a girl who is stronger than average. Sakue had a crush on Kamishiro Kouki, who used to be frail, but he grew taller and became popular, and he became a distant figure. Then, they meet at the last sports festival of their junior high school, and their first love begins to move forward. The comic has sold over 2.75 million copies in total.
Fujidera commented, "Sakuei's words are truly wonderful, as she thinks a lot about them before conveying them to the other person, and I feel that they are filled with compassion and kindness. I love the words that come out of Sakuei's mouth, her emotional inner feelings, the way she eats her food with gusto, and the occasional changes in her expression. I was a high school student during the recording, so I tried to be life-sized and thought about how I could express the delicate fluctuations of Sakuei's heart, and I played the role with care."
Ono said, "Actually, I lived in Sapporo during my elementary school years, and it seems that one of the places that appears in the story was within the area where I lived at the time, so I felt a strong sense of affinity with it. However, the Kamishiro that I will be playing is a sparkling prince...but he is more than that. Above all, how can I convey the character of Kamishiro, who is in the throes of youth, using my voice as someone who has now reached the age of 40? During the audition, someone told me, 'Ono-san, you can go in this direction too!' I will use those words as my lifeline and do my best to play the role."
A teaser visual was also released, depicting Sakuei and Jinjo gazing at each other while standing just one desk apart in a classroom, and a teaser PV that begins with a scene of Sakuei reminiscing about his memories with Jinjo when they were elementary school students.
