It has been announced that Studio Ghibli's animated feature film "The Boy and the Heron", directed by Hayao Miyazaki and winner of the 96th Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, will be broadcast on Friday Road Show (Nippon TV, Friday 9pm) on May 2nd. This will be the first time the film will be broadcast, and it will be shown uncut. Friday Road Show will also be broadcasting Miyazaki's animated feature film "Porco Rosso" on Getsuku.
"The Boy and the Heron" is Miyazaki's latest feature-length animated film, his first in about 10 years since "The Wind Rises" in 2013. Miyazaki wrote the original story and screenplay. The film was released on July 14, 2023, without the plot, cast, theme song, etc. being revealed in advance.
Actor Soma Santoki plays the main character, Masato, and the cast includes voice actors Masaki Suda, Ko Shibasaki, Aimyon, Yoshino Kimura, Takuya Kimura, Shinobu Otake, Jun Fubuki, Sawako Agawa, Karen Takizawa, Jun Kunimura, Kaoru Kobayashi, and Shohei Hino.
A special program commemorating the premiere of "The Boy and the Heron?" will be broadcast on Nippon Television at 3:55 pm on April 29th. Santoki, the voice actor of the main character, Masato, will visit Ghibli Park (Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture).
