Ryosuke Yamada of the popular group " Hey! Say! JUMP " will star in the Yomiuri TV/Nippon TV drama series "Ichijigen no Sashiki" (One-Dimensional Cutting), which will begin airing on July 5th at 10:30 PM on Sundays. The drama is a human mystery based on the novel of the same name by Ryunosuke Matsushita, which won the 2025 Bunko Grand Prix in Takarajimasha's "Kono Mystery ga Sugoi!" (This Mystery is Amazing!) competition. Yamada will play Yu Nanase, a graduate student studying genetics who becomes entangled in an inexplicable mystery.
Yu, played by Yamada, cannot forget his stepsister, Shiori, who went missing in a torrential downpour, and believes she is still alive. One day, his mentor, Professor Iwamizaki, asks him to perform DNA testing on 200-year-old human remains unearthed at Lake Rupukund in India, and the DNA of the remains matches that of the missing Shiori 100%. Mysterious deaths of those involved, stolen human remains, vanished memories of the past—all of these begin to connect in a single thread...
Mayu Hotta Shiraishi will appear as Yui Iwamizaki, the heroine who partners with Yu and is the niece of the professor at the research lab Yu belongs to. Mayu Hotta will play Shiyo Nanase, Yu's stepsister who went missing four years ago, Kuranosuke Sasaki will play Kyoichi Nanase, Yu's stepfather, Honami Suzuki will play Kayoko Senba, a world-renowned developmental biologist, Honami Suzuki will play Kaede Nanase, Yu's mother who passed away seven years ago, Taisei Kido will play Mikio Maehara, an employee of the major pharmaceutical company Hiei Pharmaceutical, and Bokuzo Masana will play Akihiko Taisei Kido, the professor at the research lab Yu belongs to.
In the first episode, graduate student Yu is standing in front of the funeral home of Shiyo, who went missing in a torrential downpour four years ago. He has come to stop Shiyo's funeral, which is being conducted by his stepfather, Nanase Kyoichi, the president of Hiei Pharmaceuticals. Shiyo went missing four years ago, but Yu had seen her since then and believed she was still alive.
Around this time, Yu is asked by Professor Iwamizaki to perform DNA testing on ancient human remains. These are 200-year-old human remains excavated from Lake Rupukund in India. He hears a rumor among the locals that "anyone who takes bones from Lake Rupukund will be cursed," but Yu accepts the job.
However, when Yu analyzes the bones, he discovers the astonishing result that the DNA analyzed is a 100% match to that of the missing Shiyo. Though nauseated by the inexplicable mystery, Yu sets out to uncover the truth. Then, Yui, Iwamizaki's niece, appears before Yu and reveals an unexpected truth...
