Actor Yukiya Kitamura will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on April 4th at 1pm. His father is actor Kazuo Kitamura, who was close to Kuroyanagi. While watching footage of his father's appearances on the show, Yukiya Kitamura will talk about precious anecdotes with his father.
He played the father of the protagonist, Masato, in the NHK Asadora drama "Omusubi" that aired until March. Matsudaira Ken played Masato's father, Nagayoshi. Matsudaira was a shogun in a period drama that he watched with his grandfather when he was little, and even during breaks in filming, he had an overwhelming presence as he stood as the shogun.
He made his debut in the film "Kanzo Sensei" (1998) directed by Shohei Imamura. He arrived on set early to learn, and was valued by the production staff, helping out on set day after day. The most difficult part was catching cicadas. He was told to catch them because they were so noisy, so he went to the summer mountains, and there were so many that he could catch them with his hands. He says it was a bitter memory of running around while getting sunburned black. He only trained on set because the director told the staff, "I'm a newbie, so please work me hard," and when it was his turn, most of the staff were surprised and said, "I didn't know you were an actor."
