A project to mark 10 years since the death of manga artist Shigeru Mizuki has been launched, and it has been announced that a selection of masterpieces from the first to sixth seasons of the anime series " GeGeGe no Kitaro GeGeGe no Kitaro ", titled "GeGeGe no Kitaro: My Beloved Masako Nozawa", will be broadcast every Sunday at 9am on Fuji TV and other stations starting from April 6th. The show will feature favorite episodes selected by a star-studded cast of voice actors who have played Kitaro throughout the years, including Masako Nozawa, Minami Takayama, Yoko Matsuoka, Miyuki Sawashiro . A key visual drawn by Toko Yatabe , character designer for the sixth season's anime film " The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe ", has also been released. The visual depicts Mizuki surrounded by Kitaro from the first to sixth seasons in a space resembling Mizuki's workspace.
It was also announced that the stage play " GeGeGe no Kitaro " will be performed in Tokyo and Osaka. It is said that the stage version performed in 2022 will be powered up, with Yoshihiko Aramaki as Kitaro and Sumire Uesaka as Neko Musume reprising their roles, and Akio Otsuka as Nezumi-Otoko. It will be performed at Meijiza (Chuo-ku, Tokyo) from August 2nd to 16th, and at Shin-Kabukiza (Tennoji-ku, Osaka) from August 18th to 25th.
"GeGeGe no Kitaro" is a manga in which the main character, Kitaro, faces various incidents with his unique companions, the monsters Ratman and Sunakakebaara. The first series of the TV anime was broadcast in 1968-69, and it has been loved for over half a century since then.
The sixth season is the first new work in about nine years since the fifth season, which aired from 2007 to 2009, and was broadcast on Fuji TV and other stations from April 2018 to March 2020. It attracted attention for its depiction of black companies, social media addiction, immigration issues, and other issues, and Neko Musume with a model figure, also gained popularity. "Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe," which was released in November 2023, was selected as the Outstanding Animation Film at the 47th Japan Academy Awards.
