It has been announced that the new film "Futsu no Kodomo (Ordinary Children)," directed by Mipo O (2014's "The Light Shines Only There") and written by Ryo Takada, will be released on September 5th.
The movie has a completely original story. 10-year-old fourth-grader Ueda Yuji is a completely ordinary boy who loves animals. He falls in love with Miyake Kokoa, an environmentally conscious girl. In order to get closer to her, he decides to join her in the environmental activities that Kokoa is crazy about. Then, a bit of a problem child in the class, Hashimoto Yoto, joins in, and the activities the three of them start take an unexpected turn... and so the story unfolds.
The main character, Yuji, will be played by Shimada Tetsuta, Kokoa by Ruri, who will be trying her hand at full-scale acting for the first time, and Haruto by Ajimoto Yodai.
Screenwriter Takada said, "I've wanted to write a human drama between children for a long time," and continued, "What I want to show is the intense power of human beings who exchange blunt insults every day, endure nagging from adults, and try to find joy in even the briefest of moments. The fears of childhood. The dangers of innocence. The intense, precious time they spend living in a state of emotional turmoil. Director Go Miho's film has all of these things, and everything seemed to shine. It's a film that makes you think that, in fact, what children see, adults can see too."
Director Wu aimed to make "a children's film like no other before; one that will excite and thrill children, and that adults will find endearing and relatable, and hopefully have lots to talk about."
He continued, "This time, through multiple auditions, I was able to meet many wonderfully talented people, including Shimada Tetsuta, Ruri, and Ajimoto Yodai." He added, "I can't wait for people to see these sparkling, treasure-like children! I think I was able to let loose more freely than I've ever done in a film before."
