It has been announced that Akai Matsuri's light novel "My Status As an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's" from Overlap Bunko will be adapted into a TV anime and will begin airing in October. The story follows Oda Akira, a boy who has acquired the ability to be an assassin, meeting an elf girl named Amelia Rose Quartz and how he becomes a true assassin. It has also been announced that voice actors Takeo Otsuka Takeo and Saku Mizuno will play Oda Akira and Amelia Rose Quartz, respectively.
The main staff has also been announced, with Habara Nobuyoshi (Fafner in the Azure) as director, Okada Kunihiko (Yowamushi Pedal) as series composer, Okada Hirona (Gundam Build Metaverse) as character designer, Saito Kaori (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury) as character designer, and Igarashi Satoshi (This Healer is Annoying) as music composer. Yamane Yoshihiro (Brave Express Might Gaine) as monster designer, and Ishihara Mitsuru (Rockman EXE) as main animator will be produced by Sunrise.
The story is about a high school student, Oda Akira, who is summoned to another world with his classmates. Because he has a low presence, he should have gained the powers of an ordinary assassin, but his status value easily exceeds that of a hero, the strongest profession... After being falsely accused, Oda Akira takes refuge in the depths of a labyrinth, where he meets a beautiful elf girl named Amelia and becomes a true assassin. The series has also been adapted into a comic book, and the total number of copies published in the series has exceeded 1.5 million.
Otsuka, who plays Oda Akira, commented, "At first, I thought this work would have a pop content based on the title, but it was more than that. I'm sure that if you watch the first episode, you'll be excited to see how it unfolds. The anime is also wonderfully structured, so I hope that both those who are familiar with the original work and the comic adaptation, and those who are experiencing it for the first time, will look forward to the broadcast. Everyone, please support 'Stage Tsuyo'!"
Mizuno, who plays Amelia, said, "Amelia is like a cat, and the expressions she only shows to the main character, Akira, are very adorable. I would be happy if we could bring to everyone an Amelia that becomes more and more adorable as the story progresses. The script is faithful to the original, the battle scenes are well-crafted, and there are so many scenes that make me think, "I can't wait to see this scene...!" I am honored to be involved in such a wonderful production. I hope everyone will look forward to it!"
Director Habara said, "I have been working in animation for over 40 years, but this was my first time directing a work with a story about transporting characters to another world. I was nervous at first, but as soon as I started reading the original work I was immediately drawn into the world, and landscapes began to appear in my mind, and I could see Akira, Amelia and the other characters coming to life. With the support of Akai-sensei, we have been creating this film with excellent staff and a fascinating cast. I hope you will enjoy it until the very end!!"
Igarashi, who is in charge of the music, commented, "Congratulations on the anime adaptation! I was in charge of the music for the play. The setting of the main character, Akira, as an assassin is very striking, and I expressed the seriousness and shadowy atmosphere unique to the work with a heavy orchestra, based on the director's orders and the beautiful artwork and setting materials. The work is full of highlights, from tense scenes, to moving scenes, to powerful battle scenes. I hope you enjoy it."
Original author Akai commented, "It has been made into an anime thanks to all the readers and everyone involved in this work. Thank you so much! When I think about it, I was surprised when it was made into a book, and when it was made into a comic, but I never imagined it would get to the point of becoming an anime. My dream when I first created the original work has come true, and it still feels like a dream! I hope you will enjoy watching Akira and his friends struggle to survive but do their best in the parallel world they are suddenly summoned to."
A teaser visual depicting Akira and Amelia holding their weapon, Yatogami, and a teaser PV depicting the scene where Akira and Amelia meet have been released.
