The 4K remastered versions of the animated feature films "Innocence" and "Ghost in the Shell" based on Masamune Shirow's popular manga "Ghost in the Shell" will be screened at TOHO Cinemas from February 28th. Akio Otsuka, who plays Batou, commented on the film. Otsuka quoted the words of Tanaka Atsuko, who played Motoko Kusanagi, who passed away last August, and looked back on the 20th anniversary of "Innocence". The latest trailer using the 4K remastered footage has also been released on YouTube.
Innocence, which was released in theaters in 2004 and celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, will be released on the big screen for the first time in about 20 years. This is the first time that the 4K remastered version will be screened in theaters. Otsuka wrote, "Innocence is released. When I think that 20 years have passed since then, I realize how short life is. I was 45 years old at the time. I am now 65 years old after many events and various twists and turns. I am stunned that my life can change so much. I remember Atsuko Tanaka, who played the role of Motoko Kusanagi, saying, "I wish I could be made into a prosthetic body..." She has passed away, but I remember her saying, "I wish I could be made into a prosthetic body..." The decline in performance caused by the deterioration of the body due to aging is a fear for the performer, but it seems that prosthetic body is still not possible... I will continue to hone my skills while taking care of myself! Please enjoy Innocence on the big screen."
"Ghost in the Shell", released in 1995, tells the story of Motoko Kusanagi and other members of Public Security Section 9 (Ghost in the Shell) chasing a hacker known as the Puppet Master, who is on the international wanted list. It was also popular overseas, reaching number one on the weekly Billboard video chart. A 4K remaster was released in September 2021.
"Innocence" is a sequel set in 2032, three years after "Ghost in the Shell," and it also garnered attention as it was the first Japanese anime to be selected for the competition section at the Cannes Film Festival.
