NHK's drama "The Path of Lila's Blooming Beasts" (Saturdays at 10pm) starring actress Yamada Anna will begin broadcasting on February 1st. The drama is based on the novel of the same name by Fujioka Yoko, winner of the 45th Yoshikawa Eiji Literary Newcomer Prize. Set in Hokkaido, the drama is a coming-of-age tale depicting the growth of a former recluse girl who faces challenges in her quest to become a veterinarian. The script is written by Mizuhashi Fumie, who has also worked on the NHK's serial drama "Scarlet" (2019 second half).
The protagonist, Satori Kishimoto, played by Yamada, used to be a recluse, but with the support of his grandmother, he recovers and starts a new life at university to study veterinary medicine. The story depicts the way he grows as he experiences joy and sorrow through his interactions with animals and his friends.
In addition, Ami Touma will play Ayaka Kajita, Satori's classmate and dorm roommate, and Riku Hagiwara will play Zanyuki Kubo, whose father is an ornithologist and who is also a bird nerd. In addition, Kanta Sato, Shizuyo Yamazaki, Masahiro Komoto, Shizuka Ishibashi, and Jun Kazebuki will also appear.

Satori (Yamada) will be entering the veterinary medicine department at Hokkaido Agricultural University in the spring. Until she was taken in by her grandmother Chidori (Kazebuki) three years ago, she was a recluse due to certain circumstances.
Satori slowly recovers through life with Chidori and aims to become a veterinarian to save the animals he loves. He learns veterinary medicine for the first time, lives in a dormitory, and is moved by his roommate Ayaka (Touma) and classmate Zanyuki (Hagiwara) every day. Satori's desire to become a veterinarian grows even stronger, but he is faced with a situation where he is forced to make a choice between life and death...
