On January 15th, it was revealed that "Equivalent Triangle Relationship," a new stage play by "NODA・MAP" led by playwright Noda Hideki, in which actors Matsumoto Jun, Masami Nagasawa, and Nagayama Eita co-starred on stage for the first time, will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW in March. The play is based on Dostoevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov," and was written and directed by Noda. It was performed in three locations in Japan (Tokyo, Kitakyushu, and Osaka) and in London, England, from July to November 2024.
The story is set in Nagasaki at the end of World War II. The eldest of the three brothers, Tomitaro (Matsumoto), is a fireworks maker, the second son Takeshi (Nagayama) is a physicist, and the third son Ariyoshi (Nagasawa) is a servant of God. The three brothers, each having achieved their dreams, are gathered in a "courtroom" where the eldest son, Tomitaro, is on trial for the murder of his father. Was the crime a result of the entanglement of love triangle in which he loved the same woman as his father, Grushenika (played by Nagasawa in a dual role)? The play also stars Nozomi Muraoka, Nobue Iketani, Kazushige Komatsu, and Naoto Takenaka.
Since meeting Noda 20 years ago, Matsumoto has participated in numerous workshops, and this production is his first appearance in NODA・MAP. Nagasawa first appeared in NODA・MAP in "THE BEE" (2021), captivating the audience with her ephemeral yet beautiful performance of a character succumbing to violence. Nagayama left a pure and powerful impression in "MIWA" (2013) and "Gekirin" (2016). Noda described the three actors in "Equivalent Love Triangle" as "three people born for this work."
The program will also include a roundtable discussion in which Noda, Matsumoto, Nagasawa and Nagayama talk about their passion for the stage.
