It was revealed on December 18th that Disney & Pixar's new animated film "Elio" will be released in Japan in the summer of 2025. The film was scheduled to be released this spring, but last year it was announced that the release would be postponed. At the same time, a special trailer and new stills were released, showing Elio, who has been transported into space, running through colorful outer space with unique aliens.
The film will be directed by Madeline Sharafian, who served as story artist on "Coco" (2017), Domee Shi, director of "Me and the Red Panda" (2022), and Adrian Molina, who wrote and co-directed "Coco."
The protagonist, Elio, is a lonely boy who loves space. He believes that he will one day be able to go to space, searching for his place in the universe. One day, his wish comes true and he is mistaken for the "leader of Earth" and transported to a space summit in space where leaders from various planets gather. The story follows Elio as he meets his space friends, forms bonds with them, finds his place in the universe, and grows as a person.
The Teaser trailer begins with a scene in which Elio, a boy who dreams of going into space, looks up at the starry sky with a sad look on his face. One day, a dazzling light suddenly shines in front of Elio, and a mysterious spaceship appears and transports Elio into space. Elio explodes with joy at being able to go into space, and jumps into the light, saying, "Finally, this day has come!" What he sees ahead is a bright, colorful, dreamlike space and aliens with unique personalities. Elio flies around space with the aliens, and is moved, saying, "Such a beautiful place, it's like a dream!"... and so the video unfolds.
The stills released at the same time show Elio and the six-legged alien happily cruising through the colorful space. Elio, who has a patch on his injured left eye, and the alien are running through space with big smiles on their faces. The glass Elio is holding is also shining colorfully, making this a cut that shows Pixar's imaginative space expression.
The trailer and scene cuts give a sense of Pixar's new challenge of setting the film in outer space, building anticipation for the film's release in Japan in the summer of 2025.
