The 50th episode of the NHK morning drama "Omusubi" (General TV, Monday to Saturday 8:00am and others), starring Kanna Hashimoto, was broadcast on December 6th. In the episode, there was a scene where Takao (Naoto Ogata), also known as "Nabe-san", a shoemaker who has been isolated in the Sakura-dori shopping arcade since his only daughter Maki (Miyu Oshima) died in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, visits a disaster prevention training venue, which became a hot topic among viewers.
At the 50th meeting, a meeting was held to discuss disaster prevention training, and Yui (Hashimoto) asked for help because there were not enough people to help out. However, each member of the shopping district had a set role, and it seemed like they would not be able to help out.
Masato (Kitamura Yukiya) then suggested, "Why don't you ask Nabe-san?" Misae (Kimura Midoriko) refused, saying, "No, you can't rely on that person!" and "He's the only one who's always depressed." Masato replied, "Isn't it bad to keep your head down forever? It's fine. I think it takes different people different amounts of time to recover."
Yui also gave the example of how different types of vegetables take different amounts of time to grow, saying, "Just as different vegetables are different, I think people are different too." The people in the shopping district expressed their understanding of Yui's words, saying, "I understand."
On the day of the disaster drill, Takao was there. Misae called out to him and expressed her gratitude for sharing food with her daughter Natsumi, who had fallen ill at the evacuation center immediately after the disaster.
Natsumi (Tabata Shima), who met Takao at the venue, bowed her head and said, "If you hadn't said anything, what would have happened to my family? Thank you very much." Yui, who had been watching the situation, approached Takao and offered him a seaweed rice ball that had been prepared for the meal, saying, "Try this."
When Takao received the rice ball, Yui told him, "If you eat something delicious, you'll forget about your sadness for a little while." Takao put the rice ball in his mouth and began to eat, bite by bite. The people of the shopping district were watching him from a short distance away.
In this scene, in which Takao and the shopping district members grew one step closer, comments were made on social media such as, "This is one step forward," "I think the feelings of many people motivated Nabe-san, and the expressions on everyone's faces watching were great," "It was good to see them interacting comfortably while maintaining an appropriate distance," "I hope this helps to clear up some of Nabe-san's resentment," "This drama can make you cry just over a rice ball," and "Ogata Naoto has been blowing my mind since this morning."
