The 49th episode of the NHK morning drama "Omusubi" starring Kanna Hashimoto was broadcast on December 5th, and viewers were drawn to the scene in which Yui (Hashimoto) confesses the regrets she has harbored since childhood.
In the 49th episode, Yui and the rest of Team J were preparing for the food distribution during the disaster prevention training. When Sachi (Maika Yamamoto), also known as "Satchin," asked, "Do you cook the rice for the wakame rice balls on site?", Yui replied, "I want everyone to eat hot rice balls."
When Kasumi (played by Yuna Taira), also known as "Kasumin," commented, "You seem to be really obsessed with warmth," Yui revealed that when she was six years old and affected by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, she told a woman handing out rice balls at an evacuation center, "It's cold, put it in the microwave."
"I regret what I did. Right after the earthquake happened, local people brought rice balls to the evacuation center, but I complained that they were cold," she said, revealing her regret. "I wonder why I said such a terrible thing."
Morikawa (Kote Shinya), aka "Morimori," comforts her by saying, "It can't be helped, he was just a child," but Yui honestly says, "But I can't forget that person's face. I think he definitely wanted someone to eat a hot rice ball. That's why..."
In response to Yui's confession on social media, people said things like, "It seems like she's been worried about it for a long time," "The cold rice ball that day was a formative experience, and it has remained in her heart as an unforgettable regret," "There are emotional scars like this," and "It wasn't just a line that she included because it was an innocent remark made by a child. There is a purpose behind every line."
