The 34th episode, "Sakabato First Attack", the first completely new episode of the second season of "Kyoto Uprising", the new TV anime "Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story", based on the popular manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki, will be broadcast on Fuji TV's late-night anime slot "Noitamina" and other channels on December 5th. "Reverse-Blade Sword First Attack" is an episode based on the storyboard by Watsuki that was exhibited at the "25th Anniversary Rurouni Kenshin Exhibition" held in 2021, and tells the story of Himura Kenshin wielding the reverse-blade sword he received from Arai Akasaka for the first time.
The story goes back to the fourth year of the Keio era. Kenshin is suffering from a high fever in the pavilion of a deserted shrine. Hearing the ominous conversation of the new government army's hunters, Kenshin tightens his grip on his sword. After the hunters leave, Kenshin falls asleep and is conflicted by Akasora's words in his dream. When he wakes up, he is being cared for at the home of former police inspector Giichi and his wife Satsuki.
"Rurouni Kenshin" is a popular manga that was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from 1994 to 1999. It depicts Himura Kenshin, who was feared as a Battousai assassin during the late Edo period, as a wanderer who vowed not to kill after the Meiji Restoration, searching for a way to live in a new era. A new chapter, "Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story Hokkaido Arc", has been serialized in the monthly manga magazine "Jump SQ." (Shueisha) since 2017. The new anime will be fully supervised by the original author Watsuki from the character design to the scenario, and will reconstruct the original work from the first episode. The first season aired from July to December 2023.
