On November 17th, a stage greeting was held at Shinjuku Wald 9 (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) for the revival screening commemorating the 10th anniversary of the theatrical anime "Expelled from Paradise," which was released in November 2014, with director Seiji Mizushima, screenwriter Gen Urobuchi, character designer Masatsugu Saito, and producer Koichi Noguchi appearing. Director Mizushima expressed his joy, saying, "I'm happy that they're screening it again after 10 years. I'm overwhelmed with emotion," and Urobuchi said, "Above all, I'm really grateful that the seats are still filled even after 10 years."
The film was made in 3DCG. Urobuchi said, "At the time, full anime in CG was a challenge, a hurdle," and producer Noguchi revealed some behind-the-scenes stories from the production, saying, "There was a back-and-forth with the director about whether to include the final scene of the main anime."
Director Mizushima commented, "The skill of the staff who desperately tried to make something good. It's still worth watching even after 10 years," while Urobuchi commented, "The simplicity. The awareness of trying to create a straightforward story and the solid simplicity give it universality that transcends time," and Producer Noguchi reflected, "There was a desire to establish CG animation as a genre."
Creators who graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts released a promotional video inspired by "Expelled from Paradise." Nagasaka Kohei, Masuda Yuta, and Matsumoto Iyo also appeared on stage and talked about the attention to detail that went into each of the videos.
It was also announced that the sequel, a completely new theatrical anime film, "Expelled from Paradise: Resonance of the Heart," will be released in 2026. The staff, including Director Mizushima, screenwriter Urobuchi, character designer Saito, and music composer NARASAKI, will reunite. It was also revealed that the name of the new character depicted in the new visual is "Penem," and Urobuchi said of the new work, "I'm putting all my effort into making it the best it can be, so please look forward to it."
"Expelled from Paradise" is an original anime set in a world where most of humanity lives in the cyber world of Diva, and follows investigator Angela as she investigates the purpose of a mysterious hacking incident. A revival screening has been scheduled for two weeks only from November 15th.
