On November 16th, a stage greeting was held at Shinjuku Wald 9 (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) for the revival screening of the animated film "Expelled from Paradise," which was released in November 2014, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the film. Kugimiya Rie, who plays Angela Balzac, Miki Shinichiro, who plays Dingo, and director Mizushima Seiji appeared. It was the first time in about 10 years that Kugimiya, Miki, and director Mizushima appeared together on stage for a stage greeting for the film.
Kugimiya, who had a hard time with the film's sci-fi setting at the time, revealed that "my feelings at the time, that I had to do my best even if I didn't understand it, were alive in the character," and said that the appeal of the film is "its universality, which still makes it exciting and new." Miki reflected, "I was very happy to have had the opportunity to experience pre-dubbing."
It was also announced that a sequel, a completely new animated film, "Expelled from Paradise: Resonance of the Heart," will be released in 2026. The staff will be reuniting, including director Mizushima, screenwriter Urobuchi Gen, character designer Saito Masashi, and music composer NARASAKI.
Finally, director Mizushima commented, "It's a great film that doesn't feel the passage of time even when you watch it again after 10 years," while Miki commented, "Even if it's a new work now, people will still say it's amazing," and Kugimiya commented, "It's classic and universal. I hope people will watch it again and again in the theater."
"Expelled from Paradise" is an original anime set in a world where most of humanity lives in the cyber world of Diva, and follows investigator Angela as she investigates the purpose of a mysterious hacking incident. A revival screening is being held for two weeks only from November 15th.
